Haitian Relief Fund
"For
the amount of shit that the Haitian people have had to endure over the centuries,
they are the warmest and friendliest people I have come across in my travels."
- Jimmy Buffett, from the liner notes to African Friend
As you all know Haiti is in big trouble due to the earthquake that just hit and you may be wondering how you can help.
Wayne Myers spent more than two weeks in Haiti in October training over 20 people for Delta Air Lines, all of whom became friends in that time as only islanders can do. As of today we only have confirmation that one is alive... That one person is Guerson Petit-Homme. Guerson survived with minor injuries but he lost EVERYTHING. His home collapsed along with all of his belongings. His family is alive, but he and his family have literally nothing. They were living on the street until yesterday and now they are living at the airport with no food, water, clothing, plumbing, or beds.
Felicia Myers’ sorority sister and husband, Kim and Gip Gibson, founded a home for children in Haiti called Ten Kids. Ten Kids is a non-profit developed to empower children with the basics of life: food, clean water, safe shelter, medical care, and education. All of the kids are safe but they are all staying together because two of the three homes were damaged. There is a great concern that they are running out of supplies.
The Atlanta Parrot Head Club has started a Haitian Relief Fund targeted to help these two specific needs: Guerson’s family and Ten Kids
By making donations directly to these individuals we can bypass the inefficiency and corruption that would otherwise delay and reduce the aid they so desperately need. We have the power to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of people we know. Things will not be better in Haiti for years.
The Atlanta Parrot
Head Club is donating $1000 to start the fund. We are asking for members to
help out with a donation of whatever you can afford. We’re issuing a challenge
to all Parrot Head clubs to contribute to this as well. Here’s how to
